In the BASE 5G project, YAPE, the Polytechnic of Milan, and Vodafone developed an indoor and outdoor logistics system using autonomous droids. YAPE’s two-wheeled, self-stabilizing droid autonomously navigates tight spaces. With 5G, droids communicate with each other, IoT devices, and remote operators when needed. The low latency and robustness of 5G make it suitable for industrial environments with high performance and security needs. In collaboration with KONE S.p.A. (Pero), the droids were successfully demonstrated in a real industrial setting, integrated with smart lifts.
